Verna Harvey: Weekend Host

Hello,

I’m Verna Harvey.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior!

I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Len, since 1979. We are originally from Alabama. Len grew up in Whitfield; I grew up in Cuba, a town about 20 miles from his. (I’ve been told that I don’t talk like I’m from Alabama, but I am!) We worship at Crossroads Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia.

Our oldest son, L. C. (retired U.S. Air Force) and his wife Mandy have seven biological and adopted children; Jacinta our daughter and her husband K.D. (U.S. Army National Guard) have three children; and Foster, our youngest, who’s currently in the U.S. Air Force, tried to rescue animals and bring them to our home!

My life has been full of a variety of seasons…working in food service for over fourteen years; teaching college students (primarily freshmen) for nearly 10 years; traveling and relocating several times when my husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force—living in different places could possibly explain why I do not have a southern accent!; educational woes and joys that range from dropping out of high school, to obtaining my GED, then eventually earning three degrees—a bachelors, masters and doctorate; and being a caregiver to my husband.

Ministry is what I do in my free time. This includes, taking care of family needs, volunteering, exercising, studying and teaching biblical studies, and other mission projects like writing books. Three of my books have been self-published; another is on the horizon!

Living to give is my life’s motto, which I live out by striving to empower the oppressed.

Listen to WAFT to learn more about me!
